Cosmetic surgery is less of a stigma than it was in previous years. According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, 71 percent of respondents think society is less judgmental about cosmetic surgery than it was as few as five years ago.
Below are some stats compiled from The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons:
· 82% percent of U.S. cosmetic surgery patients are women.
· 44% percent of mother and daughter patients have had cosmetic surgery together.
· 38% percent of couples have gone under the knife together
· 35% percent of cosmetic patients had received surgery as a gift
· The top five cosmetic surgical procedures in ’08 were:
1.) Breast augmentation (355,671 procedures) * For breast augmentation procedures, a “C” cup size was requested by 81 percent of those under age 35 and 85 percent of those over age 35. A larger cup size “D” was the second most popular choice.
2.) Liposuction (341,144 procedures)
3.) Eyelid surgery (195,104 procedures)
4.) Nose job (152,434 procedures)
5.) Tummy tuck (147,392 procedures)
- More than 17 million cosmetic surgery procedures were performed in the U.S. in 2009.
